Why choose Sharanam Yoga Therapy?

  • Embodied Experience: When I'm fully certified, I may be a "new" yoga therapist, but I am not at all new to the practice of Yoga or to the wellness world. As a 17-year veteran of the massage therapy profession, I have extensive experience with 1:1 client work: creating safe and welcoming environments for people, and most importantly, deep listening to people's needs and helping them move in the right direction for them. My personal Yoga practice has sustained me through many difficult life circumstances (including stress, loss, grief, and anxiety) and I draw on that embodied knowledge in yoga therapy sessions to aid those who are suffering along their own journeys. In short, I've been up a few mountains and down a few valleys; I'd love to share with you what I've learned along the way.

  • Education: I've been a student of yoga since 1998, and always will be. I am never not learning, whether studying texts or through practice and teaching at the oldest Yoga studio in Omaha! Moreover, the yoga therapy school I chose to attend is one of the original schools in this field, and its faculty is second to none -- consisting of highly respected, educated, compassionate, and experienced humans who continue to be at the forefront of developments in yoga therapy, pain science, grief work, cancer care, addiction recovery, and more. I don't take continuing education courses just because I 'have to'; I take them because I love to learn.

  • Ecology: Since the late 1990's I've been developing valuable relationships in Omaha's alternative and complementary health scene, whether through my own encounters with other modalities or professionals, or by an awareness of what's 'out there' through the experiences of my clients, colleagues, and students. As a massage therapist, I not only referred out when appropriate, but I was referred to by peers and other health professionals. I have an extensive network of trusted resources that I am more than happy to share with anyone who needs them, because the most important thing is to help people find the guides they most need along their way. This includes offering direct referrals to other professionals whose work may be more suitable for a client's needs than yoga therapy is at a given time (or would combine well with yoga therapy), such as physical therapy, psychotherapy, counseling, massage therapy, acupuncture, herbal health care, and more.

Over to you. How can I be of service?
